Resettable LVR Device in "Plastic Box" is Suitable for Harsh Environments

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- May 10, 2012 -- TE Circuit Protection, a business unit of TE Connectivity, today announces a significant enhancement to its popular PolySwitch™ LVR (line-voltage-rated) product line with its new LVB125 device. Featuring a unique plastic box package, the LVB125 provides resettable circuit protection for product assemblies utilizing potting or encapsulating compounds. These may include power supplies, transformers, industrial controllers and motors used in harsh-environment applications.

Historically, a resettable PPTC (polymeric positive temperature coefficient) device's functionality was restricted when a system's PCB was encapsulated to protect it from water, chemicals, oil, grease, dirt and other potentially damaging elements. To overcome this design issue, the new LVB125 device utilizes an innovative box-like package that reduces the pressure on the device when thermal expansion of the potting material occurs. By providing resettable circuit p

TE Circuit Protection's MHP Technology Now Offers Smart Activation Feature

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- February 28, 2012 -- TE Circuit Protection, a business unit of TE Connectivity, today announced a new Metal Hybrid PPTC (MHP) device offering Smart Activation (SA) functionality. The MHP-SA device provides a resettable, cost-effective and space-saving alternative to typical methods of protecting high-power lithium battery and module applications. These include cordless power tools, e-scooters and light electric vehicles (LEV) and standby power and energy storage systems (ESS).

The new MHP-SA device helps provide overcharge protection in large multi-cell battery packs and modules in which circuit protection devices interface with electronics as part of a sophisticated battery management system. The MHP-SA device's Smart Activation design feature accomplishes this via a third terminal signal line that enables external activation.

In a typical scenario, an IC monitors the battery system's temperature, current and voltage and, if an abnormality
